Every year the Transport & Friends For Life Association hold a gift drive for numerous charities at Christmas. This falls in with our ethos of giving whilst having fun.
Transport staff are encouraged to purchase gifts for children between the ages of 0-18 years old to donate to the TFFLA. We then distribute to either Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity or the Salvation Army. This time a few of our members really wanted to help more families, with austerity and the growth of homelessness in London so a colleague Alicia organised for the TFFLA to support the Brixton Soup Kitchen.
Our association’s aim is always to connect our transport colleagues from across the network whether it is through the numerous events we host or our charitable causes. So it was great to connect with Paul from South West Trains also. Paul had our posters up at most depots and the South West Train employees were so generous donating over 200 gifts.
Being able to put a smile on children’s faces and ease the pressures that are on parents at Christmas time is so important to us. As transport workers, we understand that we are in a very fortunate position pay wise and being able to give what we can is the least we can do! The generosity of our transport colleagues always amazes us and we cannot thank both Paul and Alicia for the commitment they have shown to the TFFLA Christmas gift drive. Delivering gifts across London during Christmas and in between our shifts was quite stressful and tiring but knowing the good we were doing motivated us.
This has been the 5th consecutive year the TFFLA have held a gift drive at Christmas, we are proud to have collected nearly a thousand toys for children.
Providing events for Transport staff, bringing our colleagues from across the network together is so enjoyable but charity is at the foundation of what we love to do. Thank you to all who have donated and supported us throughout the year of 2019.
