What is the first thing you think of when you hear about TfL staff, tube driver, bus driver, London Underground customer service assistant, ticket office staff or train driver?
Unfortunately most of the press about transport workers is generally negative, we strike, we are lazy, we are rude and we get paid too much. Well we know this not to be true and have always set out to show our transport colleagues in a good light! A diverse workforce that delivers a great public transport service, in London they are a front line workforce even when dealing with the unfortunate recent terror attacks in London. Coping with the demands of the general public, these are staff that deal with all members of society, suicide, increase in crime and also personal attacks.
So we wanted to share a different narrative of the people we work with day in and day out, skilled staff who have patience, understanding and are highly committed to providing the best service to our passengers. When we spoke with our colleagues we were amazed at the diverse background of education and experience they had, from pharmacists to artists, musicians to ex-military. We were also humbled by how many of our colleagues volunteer and raise money for charities, this was one of the reasons why we are so passionate as an organisation about fundraising we are truly reflecting the values of Transport for London staff.
Our aim is to shine a spotlight on London’s fantastic transport staff, their passions, talents, interests and business ventures. When working in a demanding pressurised environment it is vital to have an outlet, a balance that keeps you sane. That is why every month we shine a spotlight on London transport staff in our newsletter, we find out what drives them and what interesting lives they lead outside work. It is amazing how they work full time and still find the time to follow their dreams, such inspiring stories that we hope will help others and show how talented Transport For London staff really are. Last year we featured Strategic planner Monique who is a food blogger and founder of Black Femme
